Job Posting: Apprentice to the Student Garden Manager

Dining Services is looking to fill a paid position for an apprenticeship to the Student Manager of the Dining Services Garden at Kentland Farm.

The apprentice would assist the Student Garden manager with planning, seeding, planting, weeding, managing, and harvesting the produce for dining centers at the Dining Services Garden at Kentland Farm. The apprentice must be available this summer 2011 and summer 2012, as well as have full intention of becoming the next Student Garden Manager (also a paid position).

Announcement of Internships for Spring 2011
The Office of Energy and Sustainability (OES) is seeking a diverse team of interns to work on the major projects detailed in the attached document during the spring 2011 semester.  Teams will be handpicked to create an interdisciplinary academic environment and professional development experience.  Interns will be selected on the basis of both their academic and professional background.  All interested students are encouraged to apply.  These projects will allow interns to apply the concepts and skills learned in the classroom to real world challenges that exist right here on campus and gain experience working with their peers in different career fields.  Each of these intern teams will be lead by a team captain who will be responsible for facilitating meetings, tracking the overall success of the project, and reporting progress to OES members.  To apply to be a part of any of these teams, please fill out the electronic application form and email your resume to

Attention graduating seniors: AmeriCorps VISTA NRV Hunger Relief Coordinator position

Dining Services currently diverts all leftover, edible grab-n-go items to two local hunger relief agencies every day of the week. We are also piloting “hot” food diversion at D2, to make sure that any unavoidable excess food is delivered to those in the community that need it.

The YMCA at Virginia Tech and VT’s Center for Student Engagement and Community Partnerships (CSECP) have a new AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer position. The volunteer will help build the capacity of local food pantries and hunger relief agencies in the New River Valley by identifying and addressing their needs through the YMCA at VT’s Neighborhood Harvest Program and cultivating partnerships with and among the following constituencies: interested hunger relief agencies/programs, local farmers/residence, and Virginia Tech.
